  • Dear François Hollande.

I would like to talk to you about climate change, because I, as a teenager care, we all care, but what do we care about? We care about our future, the future of our future kids. We have dreams and we want to live them, in this world! You can understand right? You also have kids; don’t you want them to live the best way possible? Think about your friends, your family, think about everyone you love, because it’s now or never.

But maybe you just can’t… maybe you don’t have the guts to walk up on that stage and say: “Let’s save the planet.” I know it isn’t that easy, but you should at least try, we all try. But maybe you’re scared, it’s okay most people are scared of the unknown but let’s know, let’s fight our fears, because if we all do something, we will know that we are going to be all right. We can save the planet, we can make it okay, if we all work together.

Do you like your life? You can make the next generation like it too. You can make them know what this planet is all about, what is beautiful on earth. Because it’s a wonderful place, I certainly know, because I’m living on it. Will we die of old age, or because it’s too cold, or too hot, or even because we are caught in a tsunami. Will our children know why their children can’t live in this world? Because it’s too late? What are people going to tell them? That’s it’s our fault? Because it’s all going to be our fault, if we don’t act now.

Our grand-parents and even older people made this planet a place where you can live; do you want it too go away? Do you want to destroy what they gave us? We accomplished so many things here, and some of us still do. You want that to go away too? Do you want to see your best friend, or boyfriend, or even neighbor die because of what we did, maybe they didn’t help either, but it doesn’t change the fact that we have to help, it doesn’t change anything, we still love them no matter what, and maybe that neighbor and boyfriend, best friend could help us too…

We really care, about this meeting we want to stop climate change, we have one last change, one last shot, to stop the storms, the hurricanes, the cold.. Even the heat, everything is going to go back to the way it was before, so please do something about it, make them realize in your speech that we might lose our planet, and do you know what that means? We won’t live anywhere, we won’t bake cakes, or laugh with friends, or even go to work, because we won’t be there. We will be gone, dead, none of our souls or heart will stay in the sky.. No even the aliens will think somebody ever lived there, because it will to too hot and too cold.

I remember you used to say: “The time for change is now/ Le changemenent c’est maintenant.” well go on, make a change, because it’s now or never, and you could make a difference, if you try to make a change, lots of people will do too, and then we are going to be able to save the world. People think doing as if the climate wasn’t changing, or not talking about it, will make it go away.. But it won’t.

We must act now, thanks to you, maybe we will.

  • People from all countries,

Today I'm writing down this letter because I need your help. I need you to help me save our planet, save our world, our future. So, on this shiny day of December ( another proof that the climate is changing because the sun shining in December in Nantes ?! Let me laugh.) I, a 14 year old girl, am asking for your help. I am scared and concerned, every day I see my planet falling apart. Temperatures are rising, animal species are becoming extinct and more and more natural disasters are happening. What happened to our world ? Who caused all of this ?

WE did. Simple answer, we caused all of this. WE, with all our dreams of improving technology and of making faster cars and cosier houses, we almost killed our home. We mistakenly thought the planet was all ours and we could do whatever we wanted. But the planet belongs to every living soul, beating heart and living thing. Actually, of all the species who live on earth, we're by far the worst one. Not only happy to have a place to set up here, we start destroying trees, producing dangerous gas until we kill the Earth.

The situation is now critical. If we don't act soon, I fear my future won't be as happy as I'd like it to be. IF I HAVE a future.

I don't mean to be the « Planet Saviour Super Heroine » or anything like this but I do hope that if we all unite our efforts we can make everything change. But, we, anonymous citizens, won't be able to change it all without the help of politicians. The major part has to be done by YOU.

You have the power in your hand. The power to convince everybody to act. The power to create laws, make decisions and all those things to make people do something. We all need to go back to a purer way of living.

I'm sure you all know a child, a child you care for, a child you love. Close your eyes and imagine his face, imagine him happy, playing in a prairie, the sun lighting his face. Now, that you see him all happy, imagine his childhood in constant fear. If you don't try to change anything, he might grow up with the fear of seing his home destroyed by a hurricane or a tsunami. Who knows ?

So yes, you're all already grown ups, but imagine this little scared child, alone, facing a tsunami. A tsunami with ten times the strength as the tsunami wich hit Phuket on December, 25, 2004. Remember this one ? Imagine it with ten times as strong. Quite bad, I agree.

Look around, can't you see Nature fighting against us because we are just screwing her days after days to exist ?

So please, I beg you. I need your help, the planet needs your help. Rise up and fight against global warming. Please, the power to do this lies in your hands.

    Clara.

  • Dear Mr. President,

My name's Emma and my English teacher has warned us you'll soon be having a conference about global warming. That is why I thought I'd let you know a bit more about my thoughts concerning this international issue.

Global warming has become an emergency, we all know that. We need to act now or the consequences will be irreversible. I'm sure you are already aware of this, but have we all really realized what is going to happen if we do nothing ? Have we taken the measures needed to save our Mother Earth ?

What I'm about to tell you are my proposals, my advice, and mostly my questions, which of course reflect my opinion and only mine :

Protecting nature shouldn't be so expensive, it shouldn't be so hard to adopt « good » ways of life : hybrid cars, solar panels, environmentally friendly houses, it all sounds right, doesn't it ? It's a shame it's too hard to afford for most people !

Besides, how many campaigns to make people aware of the danger threatening us have we made so far ? And if we made any, don't you think the fact that people have forgotten about them shows they weren't convincing enough ? Is deforestation really forbidden where it should be ? Is the consumption of energy controlled in every city ? Is it so hard to make a change ?

I'm going to tell you what we 've done so far : we've let people choose sides, considering actions to stop global warming as an option, while it should have been a duty to everyone ! Because we can't deny it anymore !

We, young people and soon citizens, want to know we can live a healthy and peaceful life, without having to take care of problems former generations left behind them such as hyper consumerism.

Of course, I'm just a 14 year old girl giving you a piece of advice, and you probably have much better things to do. You're intelligent, powerful, and I shouldn't be the one who tells you that. Or should I ? It's, as you say « Time for Change », and we, the younger part of the population, represent change. We all need to become responsible, including every 14 year old boys and girls. And together, even if the changes appear too hard to make, we'll be stronger. Together, we'll make things easier, and possible.

We're all part of it. And if we really believe in what we stand for, then, who knows ? Anything could happen. And my last piece of advice is :

Mr President, we musn't give up.

    With all my respect,

     Emma.

  • Mr Hollande,

We don’t care who I am and it’s not the point. But global warming is. Maybe you think that it’s a problem like any other. But it isn’t. Everyday, hectares and hectares of forests are destroyed, millions of animals starve, people waste everything, pollution increases…

There are more and more deserts, less and less water… And people die.

I couldn’t make a list because there are too many things to say.

We have to do something for our planet. Because our planet is dying.

The Copenhagen summit and the Lima Climate Change Conference were useless. But Paris won’t be !

You will make decisions with chiefs of states from all over the world. If you don’t, your descendants and maybe also you will live in horrible conditions.

The planet can’t stand pollution anymore.

The Earth will rebel against us. More and more disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes… will happen, and we will live scared to be the next in the death list of the Earth. So you have to do make decisions NOW !

Populations are expecting you to do something and not to be scared of changes. Stop putting it off until tomorrow. We have to act NOW.

Forbid cars in towns, make people aware, do something, innovate…

Do what you do the best, make decisions.

And the planet could be saved and people too !

But if you don’t, I just can’t imagine what could happen to us, and to every people in the world…

Because we can’t stand it anymore, because the Earth can’t stand it anymore…

Someone from the next generation who wants to live in a real world.
